There is something strange about a year.

While you're living it, twelve months can seem like a very long time. Then you stumble across a photograph from three years ago and wonder how that gangly puppy grew into the enormous dog sleeping beside you, or when the first little streak of silver appeared around a familiar muzzle.

Those photographs have a way of becoming more precious as the years pass.

That is one of the reasons we create the Dire Wolf Project™ calendar.

Every year, our families send us photographs of their American Dirus™ dogs living the lives we hoped they would have when they were tiny puppies here with us. They go hiking and camping, celebrate birthdays and Christmas, supervise children, occupy couches, investigate snowstorms, accompany their families on adventures, and occasionally pose for a photograph so beautiful that we simply have to share it.

The 2027 Dire Wolf Project™ Calendar gathers some of those moments together and preserves them in print.

Because one day, these photographs will be part of the history of the Dire Wolf Project™.

Right now, we're still living it.

Come sit around the fire for a while.

Long before anyone thought of hanging a calendar on a wall, people gathered around fires and told stories about the lives that had touched their own.

There is something wonderfully ancient about wanting to remember, which is why this year's cover feels especially fitting.

Under a full moon, five great dogs have gathered around a fire in the forest. Behind them stretches the wilderness while the fire throws its warm light across the pack.

Of course, our American Dirus™ dogs are far more likely to spend the evening sprawled across somebody's sofa than gathered ceremoniously around a campfire.

But the idea behind the picture is real.

For another year, we have watched puppies grow up, followed dogs into adulthood, and watched older dogs enter the distinguished gray-muzzle years. Their families have invited us into little pieces of their lives through the photographs they send back home.

We have also said goodbye to beloved dogs whose stories ended during the year. They belong in this history too, and our annual memorial gives us a place to remember the companions we lost in 2026 and keep them among the pack.

The calendar gives us somewhere to keep all of it.

What's waiting inside?

Open the calendar and every month has its own personality.

January begins in the snow. February belongs to Valentine's Day, while spring brings Easter, flowers, butterflies, and Mother's Day. Summer arrives with Fourth of July celebrations and dogs enjoying the water before September sends everybody back to school. By autumn, the pages have filled with leaves, pumpkins, Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas lights, and a great many American Dirus™ dogs who have absolutely no idea why their humans keep putting seasonal objects on their heads.

Each month is custom designed around its own theme and filled with photographs submitted by Dire Wolf Project™ families. We fit as many members of the extended pack onto those pages as we reasonably can, so there is always someone new to discover when you turn the page.

And because this really is a calendar for our pack, we've added some things you aren't likely to find in the calendar aisle at Walmart:

• American Dirus™ dogs throughout all twelve months, with photographs submitted by their families.
• Custom-designed monthly artwork and seasonal themes, making each month a completely different spread.
• Litter birthdays marked on the calendar, preserving another little piece of Dire Wolf Project™ history.
• A memorial to the beloved dogs we lost in 2026, because their place in the story doesn't disappear when they do.
• Phases of the moon, because if you're going to plan a howl, you may as well do it properly.

There is also plenty of room in the monthly grids for appointments, birthdays, vacations, anniversaries, puppy milestones, and all the ordinary things that slowly become the story of a year.

And that's where something rather interesting happens.

Our memories on top. Yours underneath.

When you first open your calendar in January, the photographs belong to us.

Then you start writing.

Maybe you circle an upcoming vacation or write down the day your puppy comes home. Someone has a birthday. There is a veterinarian appointment, a family reunion, a camping trip, Christmas plans, or simply a scribbled reminder that made perfect sense when you wrote it.

Month after month, your life begins accumulating underneath photographs from ours.

By December, you aren't holding the same calendar you opened in January. The photographs above the spiral have preserved another chapter in the history of our dogs, while everything written below it has preserved a little piece of your own.

That is something the calendar on your phone has never been particularly good at doing.

“But I can buy a calendar anywhere.”

You certainly can.

There are thousands of them, including plenty with magnificent wolves staring nobly into the distance from snowy mountaintops.

We rather like those calendars ourselves.

But you don't know those wolves.

You didn't meet their parents when they were puppies or follow their litters. You haven't wondered which puppy would become the biggest, watched stubborn ears decide whether they were going to stand, or waited for the next photograph to discover what a favorite puppy looked like six months later.

These are dogs whose stories you know.

Some may be related to your own American Dirus™ dog. Some you have followed since birth. Others may belong to people you've come to know through the Dire Wolf Project™ community.

And as the years accumulate, the calendars do too.

Put 2026 beside 2027 and something begins to emerge that we couldn't create in a single year. You are building a physical archive of the Project, with the dogs, litters, photographs, memorials, and little pieces of history preserved exactly as they were at that moment in time.

A calendar from the store can tell you what day Thanksgiving falls on.

This one can remind you who was here.

Can you find someone you know?

This may be one of our favorite parts.

Look closely, because there are familiar faces hiding everywhere.

If you've been following the Dire Wolf Project™ for a while, turning the pages becomes a little treasure hunt. You may suddenly recognize Finn or another dog you've watched grow up and find yourself thinking, Wait... I know that dog!

And if your own American Dirus™ dog made it into the calendar, you have considerably more reason than most to show everyone who comes into your house exactly which month they need to admire.

We fully support this behavior.

Twelve months from now...

Eventually, December 2027 will arrive.

The appointments will have happened and the birthdays will be over. Puppies will be bigger, older dogs will be grayer, and photographs that seem completely ordinary today will already have begun changing into memories.

You can take the calendar off the wall then.

But we wouldn't throw it away.

Put it on a shelf or tuck it away with the other things that become more interesting with age.

Someday you may open it again and find a photograph of a dog you haven't thought about in years. Then you'll notice your own handwriting underneath and remember what was happening in your life when that photograph was hanging on your wall.

And suddenly, there is 2027 again.

The fire is lit, the moon is up, and there is still room around the fire for you.
